The S16 Chair
The S16 chair from Galvanitas is a Dutch school chair from the 60's. The chair has a remarkably good quality. Due to its minimalist design and industrial appearance, the chair is popular again nowadays.
The model is timeless and very solid.
The chair was designed and produced by Galvanitas in Oosterhout in the late 1950s and early 1960s. A very revolutionary design for that time. The frame is grounded by curved steel sheet according to the original molds. Wim Rietveld, one of the pioneers in industrial design in the Netherlands, describes the furniture as functional: "well-designed, robust, useful and cheap".
A chair intended for intensive use
The S16 was specifically intended for intensive use in public buildings such as schools, institutions and dining rooms. Galvanitas is still known for its quality and solidity. The seat and backrest, which is produced in western Germany, is a good example of German gründlichkeit.
With an S16 chair you get a perfect "urban industrial" look. It is ideal for use in the bar or restaurant, but is really in place in a private interior as well. Dutch industrial design at its best.
